Parasylum is back and it's scarier than ever! Robbie Thomas has once again proven he is a master at writing horror. The fear is palatable and without a doubt will have your heart pounding and you at the edge of your seat.

After the surprise ending in the first Parasylum installment you would think a whole new cast of characters would be on this investigation. But you would be wrong. The team of five is back in full force on what could be the one to go down in their records as the investigation that almost ended their lives.

From the moment the team sets foot in the Rendezvous Hotel they are confronted with threats by the ghosts of mobsters from the 1920s looking to add more victims to their stockpile. With each floor they investigate the walls seem to come alive with demons and monsters, and situations that will have the team questioning their sanity.

Throw in a rogue team of investigators and the haunting ramps up to an even horrific level, causing them all to start running for their lives in search of escape from the Rendezvous Hotel.

Any horror aficionado will crawl inside this book wanting to take part in the terrifying action. Thomas, a psychic and avid paranormal investigator, knows the terror of an active investigation. As a result he is able to transfer the fear into words that most definitely rival Steven King, the reigning master of horror.

The devil is in the details and Thomas has done his homework. He brings all the elements of investigation to his readers in the form of equipment and terminology. He continued development of his characters that enables readers to make a connection, which inevitably draws them further into the story.

Bottom line; if you are looking for a horror story that will have you turning on all the lights, checking under the furniture and making sure the doors are all locked, this is the book for you. Pull up your big boy panties and be prepared for the scare of your lives. This one is a killer.

Robbie Thomas has done it again with this second installment of Parasylum. The paranormal team once again goes into the Parasylum but who will come out alive? Get you copy of this creepy page turner and find out. Robbie Thomas is such a wonderful Author and I love the versatility of his work. Robbie covers everything from books that are spiritually uplifting, books about our dreams, the paranormal and now the spooky Parasylum. I can't wait to see what he will come up with next? Great job again Robbie..

Scarier than Parasylum, spooky, and down right awesome.

I finished Parasylum and promptly was sent Parasylum II from author Robbie Thomas. After the end of Parasylum, I found myself mourning the loss of a novice, but knowledgeable, paranormal investigations team. When I cracked the digital spine Parasylum II, I was shocked to find the same team regrouping to investigate the Rendezvous Hotel. . . .

Just when you thought the first book was over, a new dream state begins. Is this the real life.... or is this just fantasy...?

Robbie Thomas takes his personal experience, knowledge and expertise in the paranormal realm and combines his creative writing skills to once again create a masterpiece horror story. I was completely enthralled with the team. I said it before, and I will say it again, Robbie does an effin fantastic job "painting" the interpersonal relationship amongst the team members in the Parasylum novels.

Parasylum is back and it's scarier than ever! Robbie Thomas has once again proven he is a master at writing horror. The fear is palatable and without a doubt will have your heart pounding and you at the edge of your seat.

I am completely obsessed with anything from the roaring 20s to the pin-up 40s. The team in Parasylum II find their way into an investigation at a historic hotel. A glimpse into the hotel's history, you will find classic mobsters that would put Chicago's history to shame. Mobsters were hell in flesh, one can only imagine what they are like in death. The team begins to question reality, and their sanity, when confronted with demonic forces who currently run the hotel. With death piling high, team members disappearing, and chaos abound, will the team be able to escape alive?

As a paranormal investigator myself, and a psychic medium, I am in love with the writing and styling of the story lines in both the Parasylum novels. Robbie does a job well done and I look forward to future books of his.
These books are great for horror lovers, paranormal enthusiasts, or anyone looking for a good scare!

This works

This method really works. It's helpful to work with a counselor while reading the book, though. Find one who uses a non-dieting and/or intuitive eating approach and who knows about and recommends this book. I dieted for 40 years and always gained the weight back. I also used to starve during the week and binge on the weekends and always felt horrible. Since working on my eating disorder using this amazing method, I no longer binge, I can eat whatever I want and I feel great. Be aware, though, that when you start you may gain some weight because you're eating a backlog of foods you haven't allowed yourself to eat for years. I overate on these foods, but have now relaxed about them. My weight has fluctuated while working on this, but will eventually completely even out and I will lose permanent weight. My therapist used this book 30 years ago and is a thin woman without any food issues. She eats whatever shes wants and has the lowest cholesterol and blood pressure she's ever had. This book and my therapist say the basics of this method is that when you deprive yourself certain foods you'll binge on them and feel like a failure for not being able to resist them. Right now my cupboards and fridge are stocked with chocolate and chips and ice cream and they usually go bad and I have to throw them away. It's because I've taken the taboo away from them. Another beware: it takes time to work through an eating disorder. I've been working with my therapist for 6 months and it may take another 6 months, but my dieting yo-yo life is over, my binge eating is over and I feel great. The roller coaster ride is over and I'm much calmer than I've ever been. What happened is I'm becoming less and less obssessed with food and will one day be a "normal" eater who eats whatever I want whenever I'm hungry and will never lose my love for food. I highly recommend this for anyone struggling with their weight and dieting and bingeing.

Terrific idea!

It is GREAT to see this back in print--i've looked high and wide, and was unable to replace the copy i had donated to a library years ago.....until Amazon!
The idea is simple: by removing the "forbidden" label from food, EVERYTHING is available--so one "can" eat without guilt. After a bit of this, one finds that healthy foods "call" out, and the ones that are not especially good FOR you have lost their appeal.
That is the contention of this book.

Be thin and enjoy your food

This book is for the yo-yo dieters who have lost and gained weight their entire lives and want to get off the merry-go-round, enjoy life and be thin. This book should be read every few weeks until it sinks in , it will take a while but once it sinks in, it is for a new lifetime of joyful eating and non-obsession of food when going out or on vacations or just daily living. Highly recommend.

About the Author
Rebecca J. Donatelle is a teacher and mentor for undergraduate and graduate students in the Department of Public Health at Oregon State University. Although her main emphasis is in the area of Public Health Promotion and Health Education, she teaches a wide range of students from many disciplines on the Oregon State campus. Donatelle is an Associate Professor in Public Health and is the Coordinator of Public Health Promotion and Education Programs in the College of Health and Human Sciences. She has a Ph.D. in Community Health/Health Education, a Master of Science degree in Health Education, and a Bachelor of Science degree with majors in both Health/Physical Education and English. She is also a Certified Health Education Specialist. Among the courses that she teaches are Principles of Health Behaviors, Stress and Health, Violence and Public Health, Epidemiology and Control of Chronic Diseases, and Introduction to Human Disease (Communicable). Recently, she has developed a new course on Complementary and Alternative Medicine. In addition to her teaching responsibilities, Donatelle is an active researcher in the area of health behaviors, and she has been the principal investigator on a number of randomized, controlled trials focusing on motivating behavior change, the use of social support facilitating behavior change, and the use of community supports to assist individuals in changing high-risk behaviors. Currently, she is working with pregnant women who smoke in an effort to get them to reduce or stop smoking during pregnancy and beyond. She has also conducted extensive research in the area of decision making and factors influencing the use of alternative and traditional health careproviders for treatment of low back pain; illness and sick role behaviors; women's decisions about treatment for breast cancer and cardiac rehabilitation; and stress in health and disease. Donatelle has received the Leadership Award, an Outstanding Teacher Award, and a Robert Wood Johnson Foundation Presidential Award for Promising New Research in the Smoke-Free Families National Initiative. She has been an active member of several state and national committees and task forces and continues to work to reduce risk for high-risk populations, particularly women and older adults. In addition to "Access to Health," Donatelle is the author of "Health: The Basics, Fitness for Health," and "AIDS and STIs in a Global Society," and she has written several chapters and manuscripts for various health-related books and journals.

About the Author
Richard Bradley is an Associate Professor Emeritus at the Ohio State University, Department of Evolution, Ecology, and Organismal Biology. He earned his Ph.D. in Biology at the University of New Mexico, studying the population biology of scorpions, and has been an active researcher and teacher since 1972, publishing on the behavior and ecology of birds, scorpions, and spiders.

At Last a Color Guide to North American Spiders

Up front I have to note that I know Richard Bradley and also many of the people mentioned in his acknowledgements. In fact I am mentioned there as well, although my contribution was certainly minimal. After the production of "Spiders of North America", by Ubick, Paquin, Cushing, and Roth, it was noted that, while that book was very useful for professional arachnologists, it could not be easily used by the general public. It was, in fact, not meant to be a popular manual. Richard Bradley took on this task to produce the current volume with the encouragement of Paula Cushing and others at the American Arachnological Society, as well as some important financial support from the Society and an anonymous donor (we had one also with the production of "Spiders of North America.") The final result is quite remarkable, with very detailed and beautiful color illustrations by artist Steve Buchanan and a text that covers 469 of the several thousand known species, and examples from all 68 known spider families found in the geographical area covered.

This is by far the most complete treatment of the North American spider fauna for the general public and because Richard had the resources of the American Arachnological Society to draw on, it is also the most up to date on the taxonomy of the families, genera and species covered. It does have a family key, but not a generic or species key. The "Spiders of North America" is basically a very detailed generic key and such a key is, by necessity, very technical. Instead, in "Common Spiders of North America" the reader is guided by the excellent illustrations and descriptions to at least a good starting point to check more specialized literature and Internet sites. It was not possible, unfortunately, to insert the illustrations in the text area, and so there is the usual page flipping needed to match text and illustration. The quality of both text and illustrations should make up for the problem to a large degree.

As one who worked on the production of the more technical "Spiders of North America," I can well appreciate the difficulties involved in publishing a guide such as Bradley's "Common Spiders." I can only say that Richard has done a fantastic job on this book, which should allow most common (and many not so common) spiders to be identified at least to the most likely group of species. This book should prove invaluable to lay person and professional alike. I recommend it very highly. If you need just one book on North American spiders, this is it!

Illustrated Spider Book

Received this book about a week ago and was immediately impressed by the excellent color drawings from Steve Buchanan. According to the back cover "This book is designed to be used.............from backyard naturalist to scientist" and strives to "...simplify the identification of spiders based on a few features of their body and behavior."( p. 31). Accordingly, it starts with an introduction to spider behavior, silk production and use, anatomy, prey catching methods and much more. Dichotomous keys are presented to identify spider families by their webs. To do this in the field one has to take the book along which weighs 2lb and 10oz and does not easily fit into a pocket with its 7 x 10 1/4 inches. Some of the other criteria used to identify spider families are the number and arrangement of eyes (p. 31), the number and arrangement of the spinnerets (p. 32). Even the author admits that some of these structures may not always be easily observed with a hand magnifier provided the spider cooperates. 469 species of spiders are depicted in outstanding drawings contained in 82 plates. This sounds like a lot, however considering the vast area covered - all of North America with the exception of Mexico - with climates ranging from subtropical to arctic as well as habitats from desert to high mountains, only a rather limited number of species within each ecological niche is covered. In the color plates each species is labeled by its scientific name and in some cases also by a common name. Regrettably, the genus is in almost all cases abbreviated with the first letter. For instance plate one has S. rufipes - red legged purseweb spider (sic), A. unicolor, S. abboti, and A. riversi - turret spider (sic). The abbreviation of the genus name seems to be common practice among taxonomists but a non-taxonomist, like me, has to look up each scientific name on the page preceding the plate. This is too bad because there is plenty of space in the plates to spell out the genus name. The mentioned preceding page provides the full scientific and common name (if there is one), TBL (total body length, I assume) of female and male, as well as "see page... " with more info on the spider further back in the Spider Accounts section of the book. Each page preceding the color plates is 1/2 to 2/3 empty. This would be more than enough space to indicate in what region of North America this spider can be found which is very useful for identification. Also a hint at similar looking spiders would be helpful. The Index refers a few times to the "color section" of the book. I skimmed through the book without finding this "color section" which is also not mentioned in Contents. Only after a thorough search did I find the 2 pages that comprise "color section" immediately following the color plates. I wanted to look up Lycosidae = Wolf Spiders in the color plates. Found Lycosidae in Contents and was referred to the Spider Accounts section which is by the way not listed in Contents. So I looked in the Index where again, the color plates for Lycosidae were not given. The plates are only listed with specific Wolf Spider species described in the Spider Accounts section. The information is all there one is just constantly referred from one section of the book to another.

Hopefully the outstanding color drawings in this book will spark new interest in spiders and this book is a good starting point for the novice spider enthusiast but is of interest to more seasoned arachnophils. Better organization would make this book more user friendly.

Great content, but don't like the organization

I have several spider guides. This is by far the most thorough guide in it's coverage of North American species. Because of that, I like this book a lot. However, it does have a few flaws relative to my needs. 1) I bought the Kindle version and always debate whether it is the right choice, especially for a field guide (but I can put it on my iPad for portability). 2) The spider "paintings(?) aren't as sharp as I feel they should be - I always seem to get better detail in printed guides. 3) On the Kindle, the spider illustration plates face identification information from the previous (or next page) so you have to flip back and forth continuously. I'm not sure that the paper book has the same issue. 4) I much prefer guides which have the write-up adjacent to the plates. This book is done the "old fashioned" way of separating illustrations from descriptions and I find that annoying. 5) The publisher of this book appears to produce an electronic edition as an afterthought (not the first time I've noticed that). They really should take more care to produce an electronic book which is appropriate to the format and takes advantage of the format.

He is familiar with the full range of emotions experienced when one hears, "We are going to have to let you go" having been both the recipient and deliverer of that message. It is his relationship with Christ that has sustained Ted throughout his professional and personal life, and it is wisdom, gained by grace through difficult times, that he seeks to share. Ted has three daughters and a small army of grandchildren. He and his wife, Lisa, live in Atlanta, Georgia, where they are members of The Church of the Apostles.

God's perspective on job loss

Let's face it, at some point each of us will face the possibility of a job loss. This book will help you understand what God's perspective is on this issue or really any disappointment in life. This incredible little book reminds us that there will be "peaks and valleys," but that God is always there to guide us. Life is really not about the issues we face, but how we react to it!

SHORT, BUT LIFE CHANGING

This short read is full of LIFE CHANGING wisdom that would help men or women facing the devastation of job loss. I would also recommend it simply as a helpful guide in dealing with ordinary, daily challenges.
