but I still would not recommend buying a book from someone who steals other people's ...

I began as a technical review of this book, but resigned when I saw the 'author' was blatantly plagiarizing from various Internet blogs. Hopefully Packt scrubbed the plagiarism, but I still would not recommend buying a book from someone who steals other people's work and try to pass it off as his own. I also think that it's unethical for Packt to have continued with an author that was so blatantly stealing. Here is my original email to Packt, they never responded:

"The "author" is plaigerising large pieces of this book. I noticed that his writing shifts between using poor grammatical structures and using clear concise structures; his grammar usage is not consistent.

Once I got to page 7 I started doing research. Half of page 7 is copied from this blog:

All the author did was change the word "Heat" to "Orchestration".

On page 3, he copies a sentence directly from the OpenStack documentation:

The author:

The OpenStack docs (https://wiki.openstack.org/wiki/Heat):

I hope you can find another author that does not steal other people's hard work. I enjoy reviewing books for Packt, but I am not going to continue reviewing this book because of this."

Self-Damaged Excellence

The aim of this cultural and historical survey of China is to provide a model for cultural world-building by showing what a real, and generally "non-Western", culture is like. It is clear, readable, and easy to assimilate. It would actually serve quite well as the textbook for a high school survey course n Chinese history. It is also a handy reference guide.

Unfortunately, the usability of the the Kindle version is seriously undermined by the fact that there are no internal links. It is not possible to go from the chapter list to individual chapters, nor from index listings to the passage indexed. Only page numbers are provided in the chapter list and index, but page numbers are not an option in the "Go to" feature in the Kindle reader, which only allows jumping by location. In other words, one has to read the book straight through -- not so burdensome, given its pleasant narrative style, but not so useful for a reference book, where one wants to be able to look something up and go straight to it. If one wants to use this as a reference book, only the paper version will do.

It would be a very meritorious act to distribute an updated version that could be used as a reference book. Ideally, this would involve active links from the chapter list and index entries into the body of the text, and page numbers as well. Failing this, even adding page numbers would make the book far more useful. Failing even that, links from the chapter list to the actual chapters would be better than the current Kindle version (as of 3 January 216). .

Excellent book!

Great book, very well written, full of interesting insights that would never have occurred to me otherwise. I highly recommend it for authors, conlangers, and worldbuilders of any background to give you a new perspective outside of the traditional sphere of Medieval Europe, as well as for anyone interested in Chinese culture, history, or linguistics.

If this book had any illustrations I would've given it 5 starts. Great content. Concise, practical information to put into every day use. Hope there are illustrations added in any updated versions.

Detailed, practical information--very helpful for patients

This book contains detailed practical information that can help patients avoid some of the serious foot-related complications of diabetes. It's written in a style that's easy to understand, and is short enough to hold the reader's attention. I agree with two other reviewers that some illustrations would be helpful--I suggest bunions, warts, and foot ulcers for the next edition.

Things diabetics MUST know.

10% of diabetics will have an amputation. This book isn't pleasant reading, but it's important if we don't want to be part of that 10%. This little book is full of advice for what to watch for, what kinds of socks and shoes to choose, when to see your doctors. One piece of advice that I valued is if you will need corrective surgery on your feet for things like bunions or heel spurs don't keep putting it off because diabetics leads to poor vascular circulation, which will make surgery more difficult or impossible later down the road. There is a good bit of repetition in the book, but I think this was because they knew that many people would only read the chapters that addressed their particular problem. I think this is a must read for all diabetics.

As a parish minister, I often counsel those seeking comfort in time of loss. And as an animal lover myself (having accompanied two fine dogs to the end of the trail and helped my children struggle with the loss of an assortment of parakeets, rodents, and goldfish) I know the emotional roller-coaster firsthand.

There are no timetables for healing. There are no easy repairs for an aching heart. While I can't offer any way around the pain, I can share what's helped me and assisted others in finding peace, for you are not alone on this journey. Through the centuries, people of varied faiths (as well as poets, physicians, veterinarians and philosophers) have accumulated insights that help us face death with hope and wisdom, with gratitude for the years we share, with trust in the mystery that is at once beyond our ken and present in every living creature.

About the Author
The Reverend Gary Kowalski is the author of eight books on nature, spirituality, science, and the environment, including The Souls of Animals, Revolutionary Spirits: The Enlightened Faith of America's Founding Fathers and Science and the Search for God. His work has been translated into French, German, Spanish, Chinese, Japanese and Czech, appeared in magazines like Tikkun and Yoga Journal, and been voted a "Reader's Favorite" by the Quality Paperback Bookclub. A graduate of Harvard College and the Harvard Divinity School, Reverend Kowalski has served Unitarian Universalist congregations across the United States. This Book Will Help Tremendously

Almost a year ago, I lost my remarkable rescue dog, Tallulah, after 13 years together. It was a staggering blow; one I knew would come someday, but one I never wanted to prepare for.

After talking to my friends for weeks and finding it difficult to discuss how upset I was without tearing up (or bursting into tears completely, depending on how my friends reacted to the news), I found this book by chance and it really made a difference.

For some time, I was "upset that I was so upset," since I had been able to process deaths of family members and move on quickly, while this one struck me as a lingering sadness. Mr. Kowalski's book made me realize that there are reasons for this reaction, and, more importantly, that they are a natural part of human emotion (SPOILER ALERT: We spend every waking moment with our pets, letting them sleep near us, watching us while we get dressed in the morning, and taking them to the mailbox with us, so, yes, it's okay to miss that presence.)

I've read some reviews that fault this book for making them more upset, and I can understand why they feel that way. This is not a book that will make the hurt go away, but it is a book that will make you feel better about being upset, and will give you some comfort in knowing that there's nothing wrong with you or the grief you are feeling. We all process our grief on different timetables, but it's important to remember that it's not a race and it's okay to take all the time you need.

I read this about six weeks after Tallulah left, and while it turned the waterworks on, it did so in a way that was cathartic and helpful. There's even a chapter on when to open your home up to a new pet (and that depends completely on you) that made me realize it wasn't a betrayal, but a tribute to your beloved to do so. In July, we rescued a Lab/Hound mix named Conrad, and while he won't replace our girl, I realize there's enough room in our hearts to love this little guy just as much.

Our pets are a joyous part of our lives. They're steadier in their emotions than we are and accept the fact that they can build their worlds around us and ask for surprisingly little in return. This book acknowledges that whether your pet has four legs, fins, a shell, or scales, when they leave us, they leave a tremendous void that hits us hard. And it let me know that it was okay to ache, because that means they did the job they were sent to do.

I found to the book helpful when I was dealing with the grief that followed the death of our dog. He covers many thoughts and feelings that come up at this time. It was good to know what I was going through was normal and to read about ways to lessen the pain of losing one so close to me.

Jean Vanier is the son of former Governor-General George Vanier, and founder of L'Arche, an international network of communities for people with intellectual disabilities.

About the Author
JEAN VANIER, the son of former governor general Georges Vanier, was educated in England and Canada. After eight years in the Royal and the Canadian Navy, he went to study in France, where he received his doctorate in philosophy, later teaching at St. Michael s College (University of Toronto). Distressed by the plight of people with developmental challenges, he founded L Arche communities, and Faith and L ight, two international networks of communities for people with disabilities. With many bestselling books and humanitarian awards to his name including the Pope Paul VI International Prize, the International Peace Award and the Companion of the Order of Canada Vanier lives in Trosly, France, in the original L Arche community he founded in 1964.

In these five lectures Vanier explains his vision for humanity, developed through his work in L'Arche, an international network of communities for the mentally disabled. Each account of an interaction with an individual from a community is touching. The lessons drawn from the humble and outcast are profound. They emphasize learning from weakness in the tradition of Christian mysticism and charity. Vanier's call to build a society integrating the weak and outcast is deeply democratic, and challenging. However, he focuses so completely on these ethical lessons that he does not explain either how the L'Arche communities succeed, or what this vision looks like in practical terms. Originally a series of radio broadcasts on the CBC, this delightful little book is a refresher course in being human. In a deceptively simple, meditative style, Jean Vanier shares the wisdom he has gained from years of helping disabled people at the L'Arche communities he founded. Vanier gently explores human frailty and dignity, our need for individual affirmation and loving community, issues of freedom and forgiveness, and the nature of true maturity. Perhaps all disabled people, in the sense that includes everyone, can gain some insight and inspiration here.

Great book for your meditation

This book is very easy to understand, but very insightful. This will be a perfect book to guide your spiritual practices. I have been reading this for my Theology class and have felt in love with this book. Excellent!

Empowering Your Perceptive Ideas

Feldman has made art criticism easy to understand for the student and non-student layperson alike. Throughout the book he uses clear examples from established art works to ilustrate the ideas used in identifying what is art through the use of one's perception. The book is clearly divided into logically linked chapters. The last half of the book can be used as an outline to clearly write one's own criticism, and, with a little work, construct a criticism comparing any two artworks from any media. This is a "must have" book for any graphic or performing artist.
